Finally, after months and months of silence, Shawn Mendes is back, and stronger than ever.
After taking a long break from music and live performances around the world due to mental health issues, Shawn has returned with the same genuineness and simplicity that make him the person we all love and support.
Shawn Mendes is a Canadian singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 2015 with his debut album Handwritten, featuring hits like "Stitches." Known for his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics, he quickly became a global pop sensation.
In 2022, Shawn decided to cancel his world tour to prioritize his mental health. He openly shared that the pressures of touring and constant performance had taken a toll on him, and he needed time to focus on his well-being and to heal. This decision was met with support from fans who appreciated his honesty and commitment to self-care.
After two full years of not saying or releasing anything about his musical situation, in March he decided to appear live alongside Niall Horan, and then in April with Noah Kahan. This marked the beginning of his return to the spotlight.
From that moment, his journey towards what will be his new musical project began, along with all the glimpses Shawn has shared with us in the following weeks: a series of photos documenting his return to the studio and telling the story of how his new album was born.
Four years after Wonder, released back in 2020, Shawn is more energized than ever, excited to get back on stage and let the world hear his voice again.
His new album, called ‘Shawn’, releasing on October 18, shows and tells the story of the real Shawn Mendes—the small-town kid who started singing and playing guitar in his bedroom in Pickering, driven purely by his passion and desire to share his voice with the world.
An album that, in a single word, tells the story of his identity, his connection to his roots, his family, and the love he has for his reality and the people around him.
Yesterday, August 8, was our Canadian singer's birthday, and he decided to give a gift to all his fans. He has released two singles on all platforms: Why Why Why, with a music video directed by Anthony Wilson and Connor Brashier, and Isn’t That Enough.
Why Why Why speaks of a lost love that shattered past and future dreams. It’s a song that reflects his self-love and the priority he has given to himself after suffering from a great love.
“I went off and chose myself instead”
A testament to the fact that ‘music can truly be the medicine for the soul’.
He himself mentioned this last July in an Instagram post: ‘Two years ago, I felt like I had no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn't step into a studio without falling into total panic. So being here now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like a gift. Honestly, I thank God for my friends and family. Life can be brutal, but having a small group of people you deeply trust to guide you makes it much better. I have no idea how I would have gotten through the last two years, let alone make an album, without you.’
Shawn is back, and stronger than ever.
He has returned to the stage for intimate performances with a few fans: ‘For Friends and Family Only.’
This marketing campaign invites the audience and fans to perceive his return as a sort of family reunion, gathered around the fire, singing together, surrounded by music and affection for each other.
I’m truly so happy to see him smiling again on stage, singing the words that come from his heart.
I’ve been following Shawn for about ten years now, and I’ve never been more excited.
He has grown up, just like I am, he’s an adult, and the perspective we have on the world at this stage of life is one of the most powerful. It represents who we are and who we want to be.
‘Shawn’ is coming on October 18, and I’ll be so ready for that!
See you next ;)
-Michela.
